- A Tolkein-esque Adventure for Sci-Fi fans
Newcomer C.M. Chakrabarti has written a sci-fi novel for the next generation. The Planet Star: The Unfolding Prophecy is a non-stop adventure suitable for adults and children alike. Chakrabarti sets up a whole new universe, then weaves a story filled with themes of loyalty, friendship, betrayal, and political intrigue. Once you acquaint yourself with this new universe, the action continues without stop until you at last arrive at the conclusion- then Chakrabarti opens the door for a new adventure, leaving you begging for the sequel! This book was pure fun- but has a depth of character and story as well. Highly recommended!
- Fun Read
I have been an avid sci-fi fan for years and was pleasantly surprised to find a new author returning to the golden age style of writing. The Planet Star is part mystery and part action adventure all rolled into one fast, fun read. The story is wonderful and flowing with well developed characters, a real page turner. I can't wait for C M Chakrabarti to write the second book.
- Outstanding sci-fi, great characters too
As an avid science fiction reader and movie-goer, I was privileged to have the opportunity to receive an advance copy of C. M. Chakrabarti's new book, "The Planet Star". I thoroughly enjoyed the book, from the other-galactic fantasy world created in the prologue, to the beautiful word painting used in the opening chapter, to the action packed adventures in the swamp and throughout, really, where Ewlon, who is actually the king in disguise, proved his true valor time and again. But his heroine, the widow Shreela, didn't entirely depend on him either; she was my personal "hero" of the book, for her strength, her independence, and the fire of her spirit which in many ways outshone that of the gem that is the actual icon of the book. The characters complemented each other; although there was a very serious bent to the story in the form of the sinister character of Uzak and his diabolical plans (and means of carrying them out), comic relief was also provided in the character of Milan Mariko, and the description of Shreela's son was always endearing. The technical writing on ships, planets, and so forth was outstanding as well, as should be expected in this type of book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys great science fiction/fantasy writing that includes all aspects of the genre, and has much better character development than most sci-fi I've read or watched to boot. It left me on a major cliff, though, so I can't wait for the next one!
- Wonderful read
C.M. Chakrabarti captures the human condition in this easy to read, exciting tale that anyone can relate to. The story may be based in another universe, but as you read along you feel the characters' struggles and their hopes like you are along for the adventure. Intelligently written with no dull moments, I highly recommend this book for any reader. No matter what kind of fictional story you prefer, this book has something for everyone.
